Begin your basket making journey here by learning the simple beauty of the wrapped coiling technique. This beginner friendly class will give you all the skills and supplies you need to get going and create two 5"x2" baskets or one larger one.
I'll start by reviewing how to prepare our star material for this project, paper raffia! It's an amazing plant fiber that is strong and durable and available in its natural state or dyed to provide pops of color in your work.
Next, we'll get going on our baskets, and I'll talk about sizing, shaping, and how to customize it to truly make it your own. Once you've mastered the wrapped coiling technique, you'll get in the flow and relax through the repetitive motion until your basket weaving is complete.

Supply Kit:
The coiled basket making supply kit includes the materials to make two 5" baskets or one larger one:
- Tan raffia paper ribbon (218 yds)
- Spool of dyed raffia paper ribbon (100 yds)
- Your choice of black or turquoise

You'll also need scissors and measuring tape. Optional supplies for cutting and preparing your raffia include masking tape and two chairs.
